There is little riding on Blackpool’s final run-in with the Seasiders sitting in 13th place in League One, 14 points adrift of the play-offs and 13 points clear of the relegation zone.

While Spearing hasn’t ruled out an unlikely late push for the top six, Pool’s skipper admits the end of the campaign provides the luxury of allowing Critchley the opportunity to assess his squad ahead of next season.

“We know it’s a long shot (to make the play-offs),” the 31-year-old said.

“But we’ve got nothing to lose between now and the end of the season and we have to take every game as it comes.

“We know in this league if you can get back-to-back games you can jump up the league and really put down a marker.

“The gaffer has come in and he knows what he wants us to do, so we’re learning.

“You could say it’s a bit of a learning time between now and the end of the season.

“But we want to win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season and we want to end the campaign on a high to take into the next season.”
