Blackpool boss backs decision to postpone Burton Albion match

Neil Critchley believes referee Christopher Sarginson was right to call off Blackpool’s midweek game against Burton Albion.

The fixture was postponed barely 10 minutes before kick-off on Tuesday night after concerns were raised by Burton players about a small area of the pitch that had hardened due to the freezing temperature.

While Critchley was disappointed with the timing of the decision, he felt the referee was ultimately left with no option.

“That’s our second postponement this season but, in my opinion, both calls were right,” Pool’s head coach said.

“The referee made the right call the other night and the official for the Northampton game made the right call as well.

“In any season you’d expect one or two games to be called off due to bad weather, but what you never throw into the occasion until this season is coronavirus.

“We’ve had three postponements due to the opponents calling the game off for Covid, so we’ve had a few things conspire against us, but we have always been prepared for the unexpected this season. We can only control what we can control.”
