It comes after Tuesday night’s home game against Burton Albion was postponed barely 10 minutes before kick-off after concerns were raised about small, isolated areas of the pitch that had hardened.

With the temperature expected to remain below zero overnight, that’s caused some concern that Saturday’s game against Darren Ferguson’s men could end with the same outcome.

However, Critchley says the club is doing everything it can to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“We’re working morning, noon and night to get the game on,” Pool’s head coach said.

“Paul (Flynn) the groundsman couldn’t be doing anymore and he’s going to be working through the night on Thursday and Friday. We’ll do everything we can to get the game on.

“We were bitterly disappointed we didn’t play the other night. The fixture list is already congested and we could do without further postponements, but the ground staff and the club are going to try and do everything they can.

“You can’t control if the Gods say it’s going to be minus three or minus four overnight, you can’t stop that.”

If the game does go ahead, the Seasiders will be bidding to complete a league double over the Posh, who currently sit third in League One.

Blackpool remain the only side to have beaten Peterborough at London Road this season, with Jerry Yates and Gary Madine both on the scoresheet in a last-gasp 2-1 win back in November.

“We were excellent on that day,” Critchley added.

“I think it’s still their only defeat at home this season, so we know how good they are. They’re in really good form, they’re in a really strong position in the league and they’ve got good players.

“We know we’re going to face an extremely tough game, but we’ve done it once and our home record is good, so we aim to do it again on Saturday.”
