Blackpool midfielder Albie Morgan has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

The 24-year-old’s condition is currently stable, and he will now work with specialists and the Seasiders’ medical team to make adaptations to his daily life to put him in a position to return to training in the near future.

Morgan has missed the Fylde Coast outfit’s past three outings, with a time scale for his return currently unknown as he continues to come to terms with the diagnosis.

In a statement issued via the Bloomfield Road club, the former Charlton Athletic man wrote: “I’d like to thank everyone at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, the diabetic specialists and the club’s medical staff for all of their support over the last few days and weeks.

“It’s been a really tough few days for me and my family, but I’m pleased to say that I am now comfortable and learning to live with this news.

“I am now fully focused on working harder than ever to come back strong and healthy, to be in a position to return to training and represent the club again in the near future.”

Morgan has featured 53 times for Blackpool since his free-transfer move from Charlton in the 2023 summer transfer window. The midfielder has played eight times for the Seasiders this term - all of which have been starts - with his last outing being the 5-1 defeat against Peterborough on October 22.
