Hunter departs the Cod Army having made 216 appearances in all competitions, scoring 38 goals.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Ash all the best for the future and thank him for his efforts whilst at Fleetwood Town,” the Cod Army said in a statement.

Hunter joined Fleetwood in January 2015 having impressed for non-league outfit Ilkeston Town.

“I’m buzzing to get it over the line, it’s been a while in the making but I’m glad to be back,” Hunter said of his move.

“It was nice to come in and get regular football again and hopefully I can pick up where I left off last season.

“I think we had a few good results and obviously if the season carried on we could have made the play-offs, but we go again next year and hopefully get promotion.

“As soon as the season ended I spoke to the manager about potentially coming back, he asked me what my thoughts were and I just said that I’d love to.

“I’ve worked with Graham (Alexander) obviously at Fleetwood before and coming back to work for him again, he’s giving me a chance to play every week and that’s why I’m coming back.”

Former Fleetwood boss Alexander, signing Hunter for the second time in his management career, added: “I’m delighted to get Ash on board, everyone saw the impact he made after coming in on loan last season.

“He’s a player I know well, this is the second time I’ve signed him now after signing him as a teenager at Fleetwood.

“He’s a proven League One performer and goalscorer and we can’t wait to see him continue to show that ability for us at Salford.”
