‘There’s two ways to look at it’: Michael Appleton issues verdict on Blackpool’s...

The midfielder was named in a Blackpool squad for the first time this season having recovered from a recent thigh injury.

The 27-year-old suffered that injury having only just recovered from a quad complaint he suffered on the eve of the 2022/23 season.

But Anderson’s return didn’t last long, having suffered a hamstring injury after chasing back to make a crucial last-ditch sliding tackle.

The playmaker immediately clutched the back of his leg before attempting to hobble on, but was soon replaced by Theo Corbeanu.

Anderson had only come onto the pitch at half-time in place of Charlie Patino, who was still suffering with the effects of illness.

While it’s still too soon to make an exact prognosis on Anderson’s injury, head coach Michael Appleton said he’s unlikely to play again before the World Cup break.

Addressing the anguish of suffering yet another setback, Anderson took to Twitter to pen a message to Blackpool’s fans.

He wrote: “Absolutely gutted after today!

“A tough three months of the season; mentally, physically and emotionally.

“My teammates and everyone around the club know how hard I’ve worked and how eager I was to be back out there with the boys again. The warm reception at half time was incredible.

“Believe me when I say I’m doing everything I can to come back fit and strong every time and this will be no different.

“I will be back better and stronger. Hopefully with a little bit of luck on my side as well.”

While Appleton tried to put a brave face on Anderson’s injury at full-time after today’s 1-0 defeat to Luton Town, he also provided a fairly realistic assessment.

“It looks like his hamstring, it looks like the one he did prior to do his quad. So that’s not great,” he said.

“I won’t put a dampener on it too soon, because we’ll try and get the swelling down and get him scanned to see where we’re at.

“But as soon as you do your hamstring, even if it’s a slight strain, you’re not going to be ready for next week, put it that way.”
