Blackpool boss dreams of Easter double

The Seasiders face Bury at Bloomfield Road tomorrow, when victory would lift them above 19th-placed neighbours Fleetwood, then on Monday McDonald’s men head to Doncaster, who presently sit just a point below them.

Last weekend’s first win in nine games at Crewe saw Pool leap out of the bottom four, though all the other teams in the relegation fight have at least one game in hand.

But McDonald feels that 2-1 win at Gresty Road has changed the atmosphere around the club.

The Pool boss said: “It has given everyone a real lift. I think the supporters really enjoyed it too.

“It was great to pick up a big win away from home and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We are out of the bottom four now, which is a bonus. If you win games, you move up the table and the other results went well for us at the weekend.

“Now we must capitalise on that result over the rest of the season.”

Pool have eight games remaining to avoid the drop, with McDonald suggesting they will need to win half of them to guarantee their status.

And two victories in four days this holiday weekend could see them well on the way.

McDonald said: “They are all massive games now. If we show the commitment, desire and team spirit we did on Saturday, especially after going down to 10 men, then we will be fine.

“It was great to see the fans and the players celebrating at the end.

“We need them now and hopefully they went home with a small on their faces.”

Blackpool will welcome new boy Jacob Blyth into the squad for tomorrow’s game, while Jack Redshaw serves his one-match ban after two yellow cards at Crewe.

And after losing their defensive solidity in recent weeks, McDonald hopes for a first clean sheet in eight games against the Shakers.

He insisted: We’ve lost by the odd goal here and there in the few games before Crewe.

“But I always said it was always going to be an up and down season and that hasn’t changed.”
