Town have finally got their man, after spending a big portion of the transfer window chasing him, including inviting Mulgrew to watch one of their games.

The 34-year-old centre back has spent the last four years at Blackburn, captaining the side and helping them to promotion from League One.

Speaking to The Gazette after completing the move, Mulgrew said: "I'm delighted to be here. It was a long time spoken about and there were times where I never thought it would happen but it's happened now and I'm happy to be here.

"It's a bit stressful because you don't know where your future lies, you don't know if you're going to be stuck at Blackburn not playing games, or if you are going to be out playing games again.

"It's a bit stressful and you don't know where to put your mindset.

"There were times where I didn't think it would happen and I thought I was staying at Blackburn then there were times where it was on again and I started picturing myself playing for Fleetwood and getting out playing again.

"It was up and down until Thursday where it looked like it was happening.

"I'm delighted it's done now, I'm relieved and I'm looking forward to playing for Fleetwood."

The Scot also had a spell on loan at Wigan Athletic in the Championship and arrives at Highbury in the final year of his contract.

Mulgrew brings with him a wealth of experience, closing in on 450 career games with spells at Celtic and Wolves also included, and he boasts 44 international caps.

Town's new no.14 will be available for selection against Lincoln City, should Joey Barton choose to go with his new man.
