Aldred: Pool can't get carried away

Tom Aldred has warned his Blackpool team-mates not to look too far ahead of themselves despite admitting confidence is oozing among the squad.

The Seasiders’ seven-match unbeaten run has seen them rise to the cusp of the play-off spots, where they currently sit just three points off Exeter City in seventh place.

Tuesday night’s 1-0 win against Stevenage saw Pool keep the pressure on the top seven but Aldred insists the players can’t afford to become complacent.

“When you’re playing well and winning games confidence oozes out of the squad and the performances are showing that,” he said.

“To go to Plymouth and win 3-0 away at their place sent a bit of a message for the teams around us.

“We’re starting to keep clean sheets again, so we’ll just keep ticking the games off and picking up the points.

“We know it can change quickly – we’ve been on the end of some results we’ve not wanted – but recent wins have put us in a position where we can look up the table, and that’s what we’re doing now.”

Aldred has been an ever present this season as part of a defence that has only conceded 38 in Pool’s 37 league games, with only Luton and Portsmouth the only sides to have conceded less.

A key component of that defensive record has been Aldred’s partnership with Clark Robertson.

Aldred added: “As a defensive partnership it’s important to cover as many qualities between you and the two of us tick a lot of boxes. We have a good relationship on and off the pitch, which shows.

“Me and Clarky have played a lot of games together now and suit each other in the way we play.

“We read each other’s game and that can’t be coached, it comes with time, and we’re confident playing together.”

Aldred has impressed since returning from a two-match suspension after picking up his 10th booking of the season during the 2-2 draw against Crewe Alexandra.

“I’ve not missed many games over the past four or five seasons, so it was frustrating but it gave my body a chance to rest,” the 26-year-old said.

“I looked at the positives and I felt good when I came back as I felt rejuvenated. It was good to take a step back.”
