The Coasters should have returned to action for the first time since early January, only for a midday pitch inspection to see the game postponed.

Announcing the postponement, Chester said: “A local referee attended the Deva Stadium for a midday inspection and has deemed the pitch unplayable due to several areas being frozen over and low temperatures forecast for the remainder of the day.”

A Fylde statement added: “Coasters boss Jim Bentley attended the pitch inspection at the Deva Stadium this morning and was in agreement that the surface was unplayable, despite the best efforts of everyone at Chester FC.”
