AFC Fylde’s return to National League North action tomorrow has been called off.

The Coasters were due to have met Guiseley at Mill Farm, their first outing since the victory against AFC Telford United on January 9.

However, on Thursday, Fylde released a statement claiming their visitors had revealed they were unable to fulfil the fixture.

Fylde reiterated the call-off on Friday, tweeting: “Following the postponement of Saturday’s fixture vs @GuiseleyAFC, we now turn our focus towards the trip to @ChesterFC on Tuesday. (7:45 pm KO).”

The postponement was then confirmed by Guiseley, who issued a statement of their own on Friday evening.

It read: “Following discussions with AFC Fylde and the National League this week, we can confirm that we will not be taking part in tomorrow’s scheduled fixture away at Mill Farm.

“Although we appreciate AFC Fylde’s offer to provide Covid testing for our players and staff, we feel that the vote against the league’s resolution and the exact details around any financial support need clarification before we can participate in further fixtures.

“Carrying on playing whilst incurring further costs and exposing our staff, players and volunteers to potential risk for a season that could be null and voided in the next 24 days is irrational and unreasonable.

“We hope to hear the results of the vote ASAP and implore our counterparts to vote as soon as they can.”

National League North and South are due to resume tomorrow, though clubs are in the process of voting on whether to abandon the season and declare it void because of funding concerns.

Some clubs are reluctant to play until the outcome of the vote is known but have been instructed to do so by the National League.

Tomorrow’s match was set to have been the first of five in 15 days for the Coasters, though it also had an extra meaning for the club.

Manager Jim Bentley was due to attend his first game since heart surgery on December 1, having made several visits to the training ground recently.
