The Coasters moved back into the top four at the weekend following their 4-0 defeat of Chorley at Mill Farm.

They are one of three teams on 24 points, seven behind leaders Gloucester City but with three games in hand.

Chadwick had prepared for the Chorley game by maintaining there was a lot of football still to be played this season, and with 29 games to go, it’s a position he repeated at full-time on Saturday.

“It’s too early to really read anything into that,” he said afterwards.

“We like to think we will be at the right end of the table come the end of the season.

“We have to make sure that performances, game to game, are good, standards in training are good and we’ve had a good week’s training.

“We gave them a few home truths after the (Boxing Day) game against Chorley and rightly so but they have responded in terrific manner.

“There’s been a real intensity to the training and we’ve seen that in the performance today.

“We have to move on with it, we have to take that forward and build that momentum, and we’ve had, for the majority, good performances.

“After Boxing Day, I said we’d had good performances for the majority of the games we’ve played and there was another one there.

“Credit to them and we take that forward moving into the next game.”

Three points and a hat-trick for Ben Tollitt meant it was a good day for the Coasters anyway.

Just as pleasing for Chadwick, however, was the clean sheet recorded at the other end of the pitch.

Central to that, in his view, was the performance of club captain Nathan Pond, who has battled a groin problem this season.

Chadwick said: “I thought Pondy was outstanding. We’ve missed Pondy at times when he’s not played, I thought Pondy and Whits (Alex Whitmore) were superb.

“Chorley had a good result against us, they went to Chester and beat them, so they are a good side and will pick up results.

“The clean sheet was important to us and the counter-attacking play and final third play was superb.

“We won’t get carried away. It’s another win for us and it certainly gets that momentum back going into a couple of tough games next.”
