The Coasters made it five wins from six National League North games this season with a 1-0 victory at Mill Farm on Tuesday.

Both sides had looked destined to take a point apiece until Nick Haughton (pictured) scored a late winner to keep Fylde joint top of the table.

Bentley said afterwards: “It was a strange game, I didn’t really enjoy it that much if I’m being honest.

“I feel quite drained now but every credit to the opposition, I thought they battled, they recovered well into a good defensive shape and they have good players.

“Across the board they gave it their all and they looked a threat. We knew, going into the game, they are a decent outfit.”

Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock with Fylde grateful to Nathan Pond for a goalline clearance.

The difference, ultimately, was another crucial intervention from Haughton as he netted the only goal of the game with three minutes remaining.

“They certainly asked questions of us in a game that ended up being tight,” Bentley admitted.

“We’ve got the win through another moment of brilliance by Nick Haughton with a superb goal.

“I looked at their side and I think they have two players who have scored this season in their starting XI.

“We’re getting goals from all over, but in tight games, Nick Haughton is the difference – but we can’t keep relying on him getting us out of it.

“We’re going to have teams who come and raise their game. Thankfully, we have a matchwinner that was the difference between the sides.”
