They have been replaced in seventh spot by a Dover Athletic side who visit Mill Farm this Saturday.

And Challinor is expecting a different challenge to that posed at Guiseley.

He said: “The pitch was horrific and really didn’t help us. They made the game into what they wanted and ultimately ended up with the result that they wanted.

Did they deserve it? No. Did we deserve it? Probably not. It was a horrible game and hopefully we don’t have to go back there again for a long time.

“The minimum we had to take was a draw from a scrappy game with very little quality. One goal was ultimately going to decide the game and I’m very disappointed that we didn’t get it.

“We looked like we were waiting for something to happen rather than making it happen. Similarly to Saturday, I have no issue with the effort or application of the players. I just wanted to see more urgency from our lads. We only got going when they scored.

“The manner of the goal they scored is very poor. If we had lost the game by over-committing bodies forward and going for it, then it would have been more acceptable for me.”

It is also the first time all season that Fylde have failed to find the net in successive games, though with 11 games still to play there is plenty of time to get their challenge back on track.

Challinor added: “We need to analyse the game because, regardless of the pitch, there were things that went wrong that we need to address before we face an other tough game against Dover on Saturday

“You have to be adaptable and find a way to win and we didn’t do that.

“Of course we are disappointed but it certainly is not the end of what we are trying to achieve this season. We will regroup and go again on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can show that we are a good team at the weekend and that this has just been a minor blip. There is still an awful lot to play for but we have to get back to it.” sooner rather than later.
