AFC Fylde owner David Haythornthwaite has admitted the signing of Mark Yeates last summer might have been “knee-jerk”.

The former Blackpool midfielder made the switch to Mill Farm last summer from fellow National League side Eastleigh.

Unfortunately it’s not worked out as well as expected for the 35-year-old, who is likely to leave the club when his contract expires later this month.

“He’s someone we tried to get for quite a long time,” Haythornthwaite said.

“He’s been in and out of the side and maybe, from our point of view, it might have been a knee-jerk signing.

“That’s nothing against Mark, I just don’t think the way we play football suited Mark’s style of play.

“With not knowing what division we’re going to be playing in, that compounds our problems of who we might sign and who we might not.

“We’re talking to Mark but we haven’t made a final decision yet. At the moment Mark will probably depart the club in the beginning of July.”
