Lytham Cricket and Sports Club in Church Road, Lytham, revealed last week it was looking to sell part of its land to provide funding to replace outdated facilities.

But after a meeting with members, a development team has been established which will research alternatives to selling club grounds to fund improvements.

Club director Graham Stuart said: “We had a lot of constructive comments and some people wanted a little bit more time to consider what was happening and see if there is a way of alternative funding.

“The last thing anybody wants to do is sell land.

“There is a group which has been established to look at viable alternatives and funds which are available.”

The cricket club, first established in 1855, is hoping to upgrade its clubhouse and changing facilities.

Following the club meeting, a three-month period has been granted to find other funding solutions.

A spokesman for the development team said: “We would like to stress that the club is sound and although the facilities, especially the changing rooms, are dated and in need of improvement there is absolutely no question of the club needing to sell off land to survive.

“The results of the consultation will be fed into a robust business plan that will detail improvements to accommodate, where possible, all sections’ needs into the future.”

Heritage and environmental groups have been asked for their input and can contact the leader of the development team by email on [email protected]
