Fleetwood’s flying start

After shocking Chorley on the opening day, Matt Clark’s side dismissed Carnforth for 80 at Broadwater en route to a seven-wicket success.

No visiting batsman managed more than 11 as Sam Bell took 4-17 from his 11 overs. Fleetwood then paced their reply to seal victory with 6.1 overs remaining, opener Mike Clinning leading the way with 31.

Defending champions St Annes are still waiting for their first win of the season after a second draw.

Again without star bowler Dinuka Hettiarachchi, St Annes were given hope by a superb century for Atiq Uz-Zaman but fell 42 short of their victory target.

St Annes were also hampered by a serious injury to Charlies Boucher as the visitors bounced back from their defeat to Fleetwood by scoring 241-6 from their 50 overs, with Will Moulton smashing a half-century off 31 balls. Martin Walters from Horwich CC stood in for Sri Lankan Hettiarachchi as sub-pro and took 3-55 from his 15 overs.

Uz-Zaman’s 124-ball century gave St Annes hope, but after the Pakistani was dismissed for 109, one of Iain Critchley’s four victims, Andy Kellett’s champions could only reach 199-6 (Nathan Bolus 40).

Blackpool are still seeking a first league victory two after being dismissed for 85 at Barrow.

Travis Townsend led the way with 5-20 from 13-3 overs as nine Blackpool players fell for five or fewer, with five ducks. Club pro Dale Deeb did his best to hold the innings together with 37, including four boundaries.

Richard Gleeson than launched a one-man bid to defend this lowly total with 5-39 from 17.2 overs but Barrow reached their target with three wickets and over 15 overs left.
