McCarthy has withdrawn from the bout due to take place in the Premier Suite at the Macron Stadium in Bolton after suffering a shoulder injury in training.

The bout between the St Annes boxer and McCarthy has now been re-arranged for the Victoria Warehouse, Manchester on November 19.

Fellow boxers joined friends and family for the funeral of Mike Towell.

The 25-year-old died in hospital the day after he was stretchered from the ring at the end of a fifth-round loss to Dale Evans in Glasgow.

His family called for the funeral at St Andrews Cathedral in his home town to be a “celebration of his life” and asked mourners not to wear black or red, as Towell did not like the colour.

Evans was among the mourners at the service attended by 300 people.

Many friends and members of his boxing club arrived at the funeral wearing white T-shirts with a picture of Towell celebrating a win on them, with “Iron Mike Towell” written on the back.
