Blackpool 2 MK Dons 0: Seasiders’ second-half double gives them three points at Bloomfield Road

Blackpool picked up their first League One victory since the end of August on Tuesday evening.

Second-half goals from Karoy Anderson and Dale Taylor gave Blackpool a much-needed three points as they came through an attritional clash with MK Dons on Tuesday to win 2-0.

The Seasiders picked up a first league win since the end of August, lifting the mood around Bloomfield Road and giving Ian Evatt three points to mark his first anniversary as head coach.

Evatt made one change from the side beaten at Leyton Orient last weekend with Ilmari Niskanen restored to the starting line-up and Finley Munroe on the bench.

The visitors’ line-up contained a number of familiar faces as they started with four former Seasiders: Charlie Goode, Marvin Ekpiteta, Sammy Silvera and Ryan Wintle.

With the Seasiders having lost five of their last six and the Dons having only won their first league game of the season last time out, the omens weren’t great for anyone expecting a free-flowing evening’s entertainment.

So it proved early on with both sides struggling to retain possession or knocking long balls forward to either try and turn the defence or win the second ball.

Josh Bowler was the Seasiders’ brightest threat initially, seeing one shot blocked and firing the ball across the face of goal after driving at the Dons’ defence.

Ibrahim Fullah had an effort deflected behind at the other end before Silvera came within inches of haunting his former employers.

He beat Niskanen and George Honeyman before hitting the upright from a tight angle, the rebound then striking Elijah Campbell and bouncing clear.

However, after an opening half-hour that wouldn’t live long in the memory, Blackpool belatedly began to offer an attacking threat and should have led by half-time.

Albie Morgan’s deep cross found Niskanen, whose header was pushed out by Will Dennis with nobody there to convert the rebound.

Niskanen and Jerry Yates then combined to find Tom Bloxham, whose shot was saved by Dennis before he made a more routine stop from Honeyman.

There was still time for Peacock-Farrell to thwart Alex Gilbey before the break, which saw Evatt introduce Leighton Clarkson in place of Honeyman.

Blackpool opened the second half in better fashion, looking to involve Niskanen and Bowler more, though the final ball too often found a visiting defender.

It was Aaron Collins who had the first chance of the second half after Blackpool gave up possession, allowing the Dons to break two on two.

Collins drove at the Seasiders’ defence but shot wastefully wide of goal from the edge of the area, repeating the trick midway through the half.

He was punished within a minute when Blackpool worked the ball out to the right where Anderson, from a crossing position, lashed it past Dennis at his near post.

Evatt had opted to refresh his attacking line-up just before the goal, introducing Taylor and Dion Charles for Bloxham and Yates, who had looked to drop deeper and link the play on a frustrating evening for the striker.

His decision was rewarded in the 77th minute as the visitors failed to clear a cross and the ball fell for Taylor, who finished clinically.

That put the game out of the Dons’ reach despite four changes in the last 11 minutes as they desperately sought a way back into proceedings.
