Beaumont’s England call

FORWARD Josh Beaumont, who has played on ‘loan’ at Fylde from Newcastle, is in a 26-strong England Students rugby union squad for three key matches this winter.

England take on France Universities at Richmond on February 25, prior to facing the full Portugal national side in Lisbon in March.

Later that month England play France again, this time in Versailles.

The squad was finalised after two weekends of trials at Loughborough University and the 26 will train at Uppingham School in Rutland on February 13.

*FYLDE Wanderers slumped to a 46-0 reverse at the hands of Preston Grasshoppers second team in the Bateman BMW Premier League.

In division two North of the University of Salford League, Fleetwood II lost 20-19 at home to Kirkby Lonsdale II.

Fylde IV lost 22-17 away to Hawcoat Park II in three north, while Garstang II were defeated 27-6 at Aldwinians III.

In five north, Thornton Cleveleys II beat Leigh IV 33-5, BAe Warton beat Bolton IV 28-3 and Fleetwood IV lost 7-0 to Burnley III.
