AFC Fylde 2 Forest Green Rovers 0: Coventry City loanee at the double as the Coasters collect three points

AFC Fylde earned their second win of the season on Friday night.

AFC Fylde returned to winning ways as Harvey Broad’s brace gave them victory in their National League match with Forest Green Rovers at Mill Farm on Friday.

Broad was one of three changes made by Craig Mahon to Fylde’s starting XI, with Greg Olley and Theo Upton also coming in to replace the rested Danny Mayor, injured Tom Whelan and departed Danny Ormerod.

Ethan Mitchell had the first real opportunity, receiving a looped ball over the top before being prevented from getting a shot off by the Forest Green defence.

Greg Olley had a shot palmed away by Ethan Ross as an end-to-end start saw former Fylde man Nick Haughton blaze over and Coasters keeper Zac Jones deal with two attempts from Kyle McAllister.

Mitchell then nodded over before the game settled into a calmer pace.

Upton created space for himself just outside the Rovers area before seeing his low drive deflected behind for a corner.

Mitchell was again at the centre of the attacking action towards the end of the half as he tested Ross, who could only parry into the path of Olley and he sliced the rebound wide.

James Berry then had Forest Green’s best chance of the first 45, sliding the ball goalbound on the half-volley but he was well denied by Jones from close range.

The second half saw Jayden Clarke fire over from 30 yards before Fylde broke the deadlock on 64 minutes.

A low cross from the right was met by Broad, who fired home a first-time shot at the back post.

He then made it two moments later, again firing home at the back post with an even more impressive finish on the volley.

Forest Green substitute Kyle Kelly curled an effort beyond the far post, though the Coasters saw a penalty appeal waved away when Luca Thomas appeared to be thrown to the ground while attempting to hold up the ball.

Clarke came closest to pulling one back for the visitors, firing a first-time effort wide, before Syd Agina’s tap-in was ruled out for offside as Fylde secured the three points.
