“Millar is a player we’ve been really impressed with”: AFC Fylde head coach has high hopes for loan signing
Striker becomes the latest new face to join AFC Fylde.
Millar Matthews-Lewis has become AFC Fylde’s latest signing after agreeing a loan move from Burton Albion.
The 21-year-old striker adds to Craig Mahon’s attacking options at Mill Farm following the departure of Danny Ormerod.
Matthews-Lewis came through the ranks at Luton Town, going on to feature for Farnborough and Hemel Hempstead Town before joining Burton in February of this year.
Another loan move followed, this time to Yeovil Town, before he made his Burton debut against Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup last month.
Fylde’s new boy said: “I can’t wait to get started. I just want to hit the ground running and get some goals.
“It’s been a great first day getting to know everyone and I can’t wait to play now.”
While Fylde have described the deal as a ‘short-term loan’, Burton’s official website says that it is a three-month arrangement.
Nevertheless, Mahon admitted that Matthews-Lewis had already made a positive impression as he looks to stake a claim for a starting shirt.
“Millar is a player we’ve been really impressed with,” Fylde’s head coach said.
“He’s got good technical ability, energy and a real desire to get forward and make things happen.
“We believe he’ll add competition and quality to the squad, and we’re looking forward to working with him and helping him develop during his time with us.”
