These are the most welcoming towns and cities in the UK - is yours on the list?

Booking.com, one of the UK's biggest hotel reservation sites, has revealed the results of its annual Traveller Review Awards for 2020 - including a list of the UK's most "welcoming" cities.

Awards are given on the basis of review scores left by travellers after their experience or stay with a partner. To win an award, a hotel must have a review score between 8 and 10, calculated from a minimum of five reviews left by guests.

The awards also named the top 10 most "welcoming" cities in the UK. These were cities with at least 40 award winners, sorted by the highest share of winners per city:

Douglas, Isle of Man

Capital of the Isle of Man, Douglas came out at the top of Booking.com's list of the most welcoming cities in the UK. It's a popular 'staycation' destination for travellers from across the UK.

Inverness, Scotland

The ancient cathedral city of Inverness is Scotland's most welcoming location, according to Booking.com customers. It's the biggest city in the Highlands and close by to an abundance of wild countryside.

Stirling, Scotland

Stirling was also highly praised by visitors. Located in central Scotland, it's home to the rugged medieval Stirling Castle, a popular sightseeing spot for tourists.

Pitlochry, Scotland

Pitlochry is another Scottish destination that's considered welcoming by those visiting.

Blackpool, England

Fifth most welcoming in the UK but first most welcoming in England is Blackpool, a seaside destination with plenty of amusements on offer for all the family.

Stornoway, Scotland

The capital of Lewis and Harris, the far-flung town of Stornaway is also considered a welcoming place to stay in Scotland.

Weston-super-Mare, England

Another English seaside destination, Weston-super-Mare appears in the top 10 most friendly cities in the UK.

Portree, Scotland

Located on the picturesque Isle of Skye, Portree is a scenic destination popular with travellers, and highly rated for its welcoming hosts.

Glastonbury, England

Popular for its mystical history and folklore (as well as the world famous music festival) Glastonbury was another English spot that travellers on Booking.com considered welcoming.

Enniskillen, Northern Ireland

Almost exactly in the centre of the country, Enniskillen is the only Northern Irish spot to make the top 10 most welcoming places list in the UK.

The Traveller Review Awards also rated "outstanding accommodation" in the UK, with an Aberdeen property coming out at the very top.
