Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Pizza Express and Domino's charge more dough depending on where you live

Despite identical sizes, toppings and crusts, new research has revealed how diners are being charged more for pizza depending on where they live in the UK.

The research from Casino Promo Code analysed the prices of large margherita pizzas across four of the biggest pizza chains in a selection of UK cities and found how some restaurants are charging as much as 33 per cent more for identical pizzas.

The research found London and Portsmouth to be the most expensive cities to order a large Papa John’s pizza with residents paying £15.99, or one pound more, than residents in Edinburgh, Leeds, Sheffield and Milton Keynes, who pay just £14.99.

Liverpudlians on the other hand were fortunate enough to get the cheapest Papa John’s pizza with residents paying just £11.99 – or 33 per cent less than in Portsmouth and London – for the exact same pizza.

Portsmouth remains one of the cheapest areas in the country to order a Domino's pizza though with residents paying £13.99 for a large (13.5 inch) pizza, in comparison to £14.99 paid by Edinburgh, Leeds, Sheffield and Milton Keynes residents. The cheapest place to order a Domino's is Hull though with residents paying just £12.99.

Edinburgh and Sheffield remained two of the most expensive cities to order a large Pizza Hut pizza though with residents paying 60 pence more at £14.85 than residents in Leeds, Milton Keynes and Portsmouth who pay only £14.25 for the exact same pizza. However, Cambridge residents could get an identical pizza for £1.90 less at just £13.95.

The research also found Pizza Express charged the same £8.95 for pizzas in Edinburgh, Portsmouth, Leeds, Sheffield and Milton Keynes but Londoners were likely to pay £9.65 and Glaswegians just £8.70 for the exact same pizza.

A spokesman for Casino Promo Code said: “The disparity in prices across the country is something customers may find surprising.

“Whilst it is common for there to be price differences between different chains, it is difficult to understand why exactly the same pizza can be 33 per cent more expensive depending on where you eat it.”

Louise Butler, a spokesperson for Domino’s commented: “We’re committed to providing freshly handmade pizza at the best possible value, which is why we offer a range of competitive prices and great national deals.

“Our franchisees determine local prices so there can be some difference due to other regional variations such as wage levels, rental costs, petrol prices and in London, the living wage”.

Papa John’s, Pizza Hut and Pizza Express were also contacted for comment.
