Here's when the English transfer window opens - and everything you need to know about it

The longest season in English top-flight history is over – and now a shorter than usual pre-season is underway. 

With the new season just weeks away, clubs are being forced to get new faces in sooner rather than later.

All is not lost if recruits can’t be signed before day one of the new season with the transfer window set to remain open well into the new season. 

Here’s everything you need to know about the summer transfer window. 

When does the Premier League transfer window open? 

The English transfer window got underway on July 27 a day after the season finished.

When is the Premier League transfer deadline? 

The English transfer window will shut on October 5 before the UEFA squad deadline.

A domestic window in which Premier League sides can continue to trade with EFL teams will run until October 16, with a deadline at 5pm.

What happens to the January transfer window?

The winter transfer window will run from January 1 to January 31 as usual.

When do European transfer windows run until?

La Liga

The window opens on August 4 and runs until October 5.

The winter transfer window will run from January 4 to February 1. 

Serie A

Italian clubs will need to wait for the transfer window to open on September 1, though a number of deals will likely be agreed before then. 

The window will close a month later on October 5.

Bundesliga

The German transfer window has been open since July 15 and will run through to October 5.

Scottish Premiership

Scottish clubs have been able to sign players since July 14 and the window will shut on October 5.
