Waterworks in St Annes Road, South Shore, will see the road hit by traffic restrictions for several more days following a delay.
The work, which has saw the road made one-way heading south, was due to end today after three weeks.
But United Utilities today confirmed to The Gazette the restrictions would remain in place until Friday.
Barriers were put up from the junction of St Luke's Road to the traffic lights at Highfield Road so the water firm could continue its pipe-laying operation in the area.
It is building an underground storage tank in nearby Fishers Field, and is also installing new sections of pipe from its Lennox Gate pumping station to connect the tank to the existing sewer system.
