I am a frequent patron of the Parks Art Deco Cafe in Stanley Park - excellent food and service and friendly and interested-looking staff. Bravo.

My visit is often marred, however, by the antics of other drivers on the main entrance approach.

Cars are permitted to park on the lefthand side of the road (as one approaches the cafe), with designated passing spaces clearly identifiable by double-yellow lines. Yet some folk deem it appropriate to park up in these areas, thus preventing traffic from pulling in to give way to drivers wishing to exit the park.

Still more infuriating are those who have the opportunity to pull into the passing spaces, yet instead choose to drive steadfastly at oncoming traffic. Cue an unnecessary and uncomfortable standoff, with glaring aplenty.

Is there any scope for a sign to be situated on one of the pillars at the front gate (pictured) reminding drivers who enter the park via this route to give way to oncoming traffic? It should be obvious, but inexplicably to some (bless them) it appears not to be.

Royal wedding event success

How nice it was to see so many residents attending the 60+ centre in Poulton for the recent Royal wedding.

Many memories came to the fore with residents enjoying their big screen TV for the event. It was great to see their faces when the doors opened with flags galore and a good selection treats.

I would like to thank everybody who helped on the day and my thanks must go to the dedicated volunteers who turn up five-and-a-half days a week every week.

The centre helps prevent social isolation and we try to encourage anybody to come and see what we are all about, age is no barrier so please do pop in for a natter!

Support young people in need

Right now across Lancashire hundreds of inspiring people are helping to transform young lives with volunteering work and supporting The Children’s Society.

This Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) we would like to say a huge thank you to the 3,956 supporters in Lancashire who help our charity in so many different ways and support vulnerable children, often affected by a multitude of challenges in their lives.

There are 11,932 children living in Lancashire classed as children ‘in need’ and 2,745 in care. The Children’s Society’s volunteers, campaigners and supporters make a real difference to so many young people by supporting them directly in our services, by volunteering in our charity shops, by organising events, donating and raising vital funds and awareness of our work.

BREXIT

Borrowing fallen after Leave vote

Oh look Mark Carney, the latest official figures show Britain is booming economically. Fancy that - and after your dire predictions of financial gloom and doom.

Fortunately most of the public - and more importantly businesses - did not believe you in the first place and figures from the Office for National Statistics show government borrowing for last year was about half that predicted in the event of a Leave vote.

It is actually at a 16-year low and I have no doubt that after we actually leave the EU and the i’s have been dotted and the t’s crossed our economy will continue to boom.

Meanwhile I hope the news has fortified Theresa May in her resolve to restore our freedom and that her mantra ‘Brexit means Brexit’ becomes a reality and not a sound bite.
