Young Fylde coast artists show they are dab hands with funds

The ‘Baby Banksies’ took part in a weekend car painting project at the Freeport Shopping Centre.

The unused car was set up in the middle of the shopping centre and shoppers were invited to let their children’s imaginations run wild by having a go at painting the vehicle.

Young shoppers were also invited to get their hands dirty by making foam clay bisque pots, patchwork wall hangings and square tiles.

All the activities were free, but customers were asked to make a £1 donation to Freeport Fleetwood’s charity partner Brian House Children’s Hospice. They raised £437.39.

The car painting project was set up by Freeport Fleetwood as part of the centre’s programme of Easter Holiday craft activities, organised in partnership with Glazey Days, a Fleetwood-based pottery and painting studio.

The car itself was donated by the local Fleetwood scrapyard, Foulds Metals.

Centre Manager, John Magee said: “We’d like to thank everyone who got involved in the car painting project over the Easter holidays.

“The little ones who took part have helped to raise an amazing amount of money for the Trinity Hospice and the children’s hospice Brian House and it was fantastic to see them having so much fun.”

All donations made from Freeport Fleetwood’s Easter Holiday activities will go to the centre’s 2016 charity partner, Trinity Hospice.

The shopping centre is also currently selling a range of limited edition #CareForLife shopping bags designed by students from Flakefleet Primary School.

The bags cost £2 and all funds will be donated to the charity.
