Young councillors on a town twinning trip

Four members of St Annes Youth Council have joined members of Lytham St Annes Twinning Association on a visit to partner town Werne.

The 30-strong party taking part in the a six-day visit to Germany will include Youth Council chairman Rosalie Rothwell, vice-chairman Cameron Hardie, both 16, and fellow Youth Council members Laura Harrison,19, and Zara Harris, 12.

Cameron, a student at Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College, and who has been with the youth councillor since it was first formed, said: “I am excited not only about exploring the different culture of Werne, and appreciating the work our Twinning Association does, but also at having the opportunity to discuss key youth issues with the young people of another town; spreading the work we have done and learning from our German friends.”

The group will be staying together in Werne and have a detailed itinerary which includes trips to local popular attractions Nordkirchen and Ludinghausen, and Munster as well as visit to the Werne’s historic museum.

Tomorrow, the youth councillors will be meeting up with local residents at a charity football match where they will be entertained at half time by the Fylde Clog Dancing team who are also on the trip.

Coun Tony Ford, Twinning Association chairman, who also originally set up the Youth Council alongside town councillor Carol Lanyon, said: “It is good that our young people are willing to embrace Europe and share in this opportunity to meet and socialise with their German counterparts.

“The Youth Council is a voice for the young people of St Annes and I am hoping they will come back with ideas and suggestions that might be incorporated into events and activities in our town.”
