Yeadon Way police chase driver jailed

A former professional boxer was twice above the drink drive limit at 11am as he became the subject of a police chase.

Ryan Skivington, 27, was at at the wheel of a BMW 4x4 vehicle despite already been banned from driving.

He was swerving all over the roads in Marton forcing other drivers to take evasive action.

He crashed into a woman’s car near the Tesco superstore but kept on driving.

He cut across road hatchings and hit the pavements as he headed towards Yeadon Way. Once on Yeadon Way he suddenly drew up but refused to comply with police requests to get out.

He threatened one officer stating: “I will knock you out with one punch...I will rape your kids.”

Police reinforcements arrived at the scene and a decision was made to shut Yeadon Way at both ends because of the danger to officers and other drivers.

Skivington, of Elizabeth Close, Staining was also the subject of a suspended jail sentence imposed for what Blackpool Magistrates heard was a similar set of offences.

Skivington was eventually handcuffed and breath tested.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, disqualified driving, drink driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop after an accident and a public order offence.

He was jailed for 36 weeks and banned from the road for three years and he must pay £80 victims surcharge.

Mitch Serangi, defending, said that his client said: “Fortunately there were no injuries.

“He has been trying to help out his mother whose business ventures have got into financial difficulties.”
