We don't want our homes demolished

Residents on a Fleetwood estate have called for a public meeting after speaking out against plans which could see their homes demolished.

Housing group Regenda is spending £10m to improve living standards on four estates in the town, in one of the biggest social housing investments in Fleetwood for decades.

Regenda, which owns 1,523 properties across the town, is launching a five-year project to improve insulation and the external appearance of 600 homes in Flakefleet, West View, Broadwater and Warren Farm.

But while the majority of homes are to be upgraded, some have been deemed unfit for purpose after a survey and are set to be demolished, with new homes to be made available.

Although these demolition proposals have been warmly welcomed by many of the residents keen to leave their damp flats behind, some are opposed to demolition and want a chance to have their say.

On Crake Avenue, West View, residents have been told their family houses are on the demolition list.

Jean Ethel, 59, said: “I don’t like the way we have been told – a woman came around with a sheet of paper and that was it. Where was the consultation?

“We have built up a community on this street here over the years, neighbours look out for each other and we love living here. I’m happy in my house.

“Now we have been told the houses are going to be knocked down and we’re somehow going to have to bid
