Warning after grass fires

Firefighters have appealed to the public to take care with inflammable materials after two grass fires in Blackpool on Thursday afternoon.

Crews from Forest Gate station were called to incidents at Raikes Paarade and Stanley Park after grass set alight.

They spent around 15 minutes at the first incident and half an hour ensuring the Stanley Park fire, close to the bowling greens, was extinguished.

“It really is vital that people are aware of just much they need to take care with anything which might be inflammable in these very hot conditions,” said watch manager Darren Eales.

“The grass is very dry and can set alight easily so we would appeal to everyone to be careful.”

The cause of both fires is still to be confirmed.
