Village home plans ‘are a step too far’

A Fylde MP today told how he believes planning chiefs have “no option” but to dismiss appeals for four housing developments in a single village.

Mark Menzies says the plans for Wrea Green go “a step too far” and has called for them to be rejected.

His remarks come after a meeting last week saw 170 gathered to discuss the problem of over-development in the village.

Mr Menzies told The Gazette: “There is a clear expression of will from local people that these sites should not be developed and I would be urging the Planning Inspector to heed that.

“I don’t think the Planning Inspector has any option but to go for refusal.

“Otherwise, that would be testing the will of the people one step too far and that’s not something I could support.”

A plan for 55 homes in the village, at Richmond Avenue has already been given the green light.

The four sites at North View Farm, Moss Side Lane, and two off Bryning Lane, have all been turned down by Fylde Council’s development management committee but are currently going through the appeal process.

Mr Menzies says he now plans to meet with the Community Association for the Protection of Wrea Green next month to discuss the issue.
