Promoters Cuffe and Taylor say Friday night’s event received “amazing” feedback, not only from people who attended the show but from hoteliers, taxi drivers and restaurants which saw a boost as people came from out of town to see the rock star perform.

Rock star Rod performed to a sell out crowd of more than 20,000 people at the home of Blackpool FC, with the audience up on their feet and dancing to his biggest hits including Maggie May and We Are Sailing.

Peter Taylor from the events promotion firm behind the gig, said: “We are really, really happy.

“Everybody that came really enjoyed it and I think it was a huge success at Bloomfield Road.

“Our attitude really is ‘here’s to the next one’.”

Peter confirmed talks were already being held to stage another concert at the football ground.

“If we have the artist, that’s certainly the venue we’re looking at,” he said.

“There was a real buzz in the town on Friday.”

The show, which sold out months before the big night, has also given The Gazette an incredible £25,000 boost for its Hospice Heroes campaign.

Cuffe and Taylor kindly agreed to donate £1 for every ticket sold to Hospice Heroes, which aims to raise £200,000 for a much needed refurbishment at Trinity Hospice and Brian House children’s hospice. Peter said: “It was our pleasure to raise this money.

“We have had friends who have received treatment at Trinity, and we know how much of a lifeline it is for families on the Fylde coast.

“People think if they are ill and need palliative care the hospice is something that will be provided for them.

“But without funding and raising its profile it wont be able to provide this vital service.

“When Daniel (Cuffe) and I visited Trinity we saw all the great people there and the great work they are doing.

“But the facilities needed a facelift – in Brian House in particular we feel it’s important the children have a bedroom that feels like home.

“We felt that it was the people, rather than the building that makes this place special, but with this money we hope the building will complement the people.”
