VIDEO: Little warrior Archie back home after miraculous recovery

Archie Musgrave was able to return to his Wigan home with delighted parents Kate and Joe late last week after being in hospital in Manchester.

The five-year-old has amazed doctors with the speed of his recovery from the terrible illness after spending four days in an induced coma.

His recovery was brightened up by a visit from four Wigan Warriors stars who had joined in the outpouring of support from the rugby league community on social media.

Captain Sean O’Loughlin, Sam Powell, Ben Flower and Joe Burgess all came to see him, with other Super League players including Sam Tomkins writing messages for Archie on Twitter.

Archie’s mum Kate, 30, said: “We were only expecting a couple of players so it was really nice when four of them walked in.

“Archie was made up, just so happy.

“They were asking all about how he has been doing and talked about arranging for him to go into the changing rooms and meet the team before a match.

“It was lovely, really kind of them. We are very grateful, especially as he wasn’t in hospital in Wigan. They were really nice lads.”

Wigan Warriors said it was a trip the players had arranged in their own time in between training and matches and the club would look forward to welcoming Archie and his family to the DW Stadium later in the season.

Archie is now recovering from his major health scare at his Richmond Road home, although there is still a long way to go and there will unfortunately be permanent side effects from the disease.

The St Peter’s CE Primary School pupil is still suffering a lot of pain in his legs and it looks very likely he will lose one of his toes due to sepsis.

However, his first weekend back in the borough was a happy occasion as he got to see friends and family.

Kate said: “His friends and cousins came round and they were all very excited. He was shuffling round after them and even though he was tired that is good because he was using his legs more.”

The family also took cakes for the hospital staff on Monday when they went to Archie’s latest appointment.
