Urban Explorers Derelict Detectives tour Blackpool's Metropole Hotel showing 'it needs millions'
“The biggest problem was it needs millions spending on it”
Urban explorers went inside the Metropole Hotel, used to house asylum seekers for more than five years, and documented the damage inside.
Derelict Detective, a pair of urban explorers who go by the name Mr and Mrs Detective on social media, got inside The Metropole earlier this week, despite security being onsite.
The landmark hotel owned by operators Britannia, is currently unoccupied, following the exit of the asylum seekers who were living there between September 2021 and July 2026.

It was watched by thousands of readers.
Skinner Kirk said that the biggest problem was it needs millions spending on it.
“It’s worth it when less and less people are coming to Blackpool and it just shows you how many hotels in Blackpool have closed down. It would be better to turn this building into a Sen school or a care home or even apartments.
Richard Henderson said: “The paintings, mirrors etc were removed by the clearance team, along with all the curtains, carpets, beds etc. No damage was caused by vandalism.”
Lisa Lou Bell was impressed: “How beautiful is that building?”
Nicky Cole remember working there: “I had so much fun working at this hotel back in the 90s when the Butlins Red Coats were there. I worked in the little tourist retail shop that was attached to the side of the hotel!
Anthony Buffin added: “Just showing how much of a beautiful building it was and can be with investment.”
