UPDATE: Tip reopens after bomb squad called to grenade discovery

Blackpool's recycling centre was closed for a time on Sunday afternoon by a bomb scare.

Blackpool Council issued a statement on social media early on Sunday afternoon to say the household waste recylincg centre at Bristol Avenue "has had to close due to unforeseen circumstances".

The statement added: "A small device has been found which could possibly be an old grenade.

"The Army are on their way to take a look and dispose of safely if needs be.

"Please don’t make any plans to travel there.

An update was later posted to say the site had reopened after it was found the device was a practice grenade from the 1930s/40s.

"Always better to be safe that sorry -thanks to all involved for dealing with it swiftly and safely," the council added.
