Twinning to be marked in grand style with civic visit

A packed long weekend awaits a group of German visitors as the 30th anniversary of Lytham St Annes’ twinning with Werne is celebrated next month.

The 36-strong party will be headed by Werne’s Burgermeister, Lothar Christ and his wife Bianca, members of Werne Town Council and the chairman of Werne’s twinning association, Gudrun Holtrup and, along with a civic lunch, their visit will be centred around St Annes Carnival.

The Werne representatives, including two local newspaper journalists, will take part in the Carnival’s procession and other events, while the weekend will also include social get-togethers along with the civic lunch at St Annes Old Links Golf Club.

There, a charter to mark 30 years of twinning will be signed by Fylde mayor Coun Kevin Eastham, St Annes town mayor, Ed Nash and Lytham St Annes Twinning Association chairman Tony Ford, while gifts to be exchanged will 
include a watercolour painting of Lytham St Annes 
specially created for the 
occasion by local artist Geoff Winch.

Tony Ford said: “This is a landmark anniversary of which we are all very proud and we are very much looking forward to what we hope 
will be a brilliant long 
weekend.

“We are sure our 
visitors will enjoy being part of St Annes Carnival and we have a host of other 
activities planned in what is a very busy programme. On the last day we are even squeezing in a Town Trail and light lunch before our visitors fly back to Germany from Manchester.”
