Turtles’ delight at Christmas sprout treats

They’re the much maligned seasonal vegetable – but there’s one Christmas dinner in Blackpool where sprouts will be the highlight.

The seven turtles at Blackpool’s Sea Life Centre have already been enjoying their festive treat of Brussels sprouts, and they’ll be on the menu for Christmas Day too.

All the residents at the central Promenade attraction will be tucking into some special dishes.

From the smallest fish to the biggest shark, the centre’s 2,000 residents will be getting a feast – and the turtles aren’t the only ones with their favourites.

Sea Life Blackpool general manager Rachel Sipes said: “The turtles really love the sprouts. They know as soon as they see us with the sprouts that it’s Christmas. It’s lovely to watch them all tucking in. Then there’s the Native Fish – they can’t resist a special Christmas Day treat of tasty Scotts Porridge for their festive feast.

“Even the 19 tropical sharks get a treat on December 25 of top quality salmon and mackerel, their absolute favourite, instead of their usual daily diet of whiting and squid.”
