Trust to go smoke-free in the new year

A trust which provides mental health and community services across Lancashire is going smoke-free.

Days after it was revealed playgrounds across the county would be going banning smoking, Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust has announced it is supporting the new plan.

Professor Max Marshall, medical director at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We believe it is important that anyone who visits one of our sites, whether to work, to access our services or to visit a family or friend, has the right to a healthy and smokefree environment.

“We are all aware of the health risks created by smoking, including heart disease, stroke and some cancers; however, a lot of people are not familiar with the risks associated with secondhand smoke.”

Smoking will be banned at all Trust premises, including The Harbour at Blackpool, from January 5.
