Tribute to our forces

Blackpool signed off its tribute to the UK’s armed forces with a gala day in the town centre.

Hundreds flocked to enjoy the sunshine on Saturday as members of the Army, Royal Navy, and RAF showed off their skills.

Visitors had the photographs taken next to a genuine Second World War Spitfire while others had a look around helicopters and other military hardware.

And, for one day only, St John’s Square was turned into a parade ground as khaki-dressed soldiers showed off their marching.

Some visitors got into the spirit of things by dressing in vintage military uniforms, including Land Girls’ outfits.

Armed Forces week, which has included a special tea dance at the Tower ballroom and a careers day for youngsters, has highlighted the work and sacrifices undertaken by service personnel.
