Pictures from the scene show a wrecked blue Vauxhall Agila after it crashed into a traffic island at around 6.15pm, between Weymouth Road and the roundabout.

Eyewitness reports suggest two other vehicles were involved in the crash, which led to officers stopping traffic and closing part of East Park Drive whilst an ambulance attended.

North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 6.12pm and we sent one ambulance to the scene, but we didn't take anyone to hospital. No serious injuries reported."

The impact of the crash has uprooted two traffic signs and has damaged the traffic island itself.

The Vauxhall suffered considerable damage to its near-side, with shards of glass scattered across the road.
