Police appeal after man suffers serious head injury in St Annes crash

A man remains in a serious condition in hospital after suffering a head injury in a crash in St Annes on Sunday (January 3).

The crash happened at around 7.50pm on Sunday in St David's Road South, when a red Volkswagen Polo collided with a Ford Transit van.

The Polo was travelling in the direction of The Crescent and the Transit van was travelling in the opposite direction, say police.

Two other vehicles were also damaged in the crash.

Two fire engines attended and firefighters had to use cutting tools to rescue the driver trapped inside the wrecked Polo.

The man, aged in his mid-30s, was then stretchered to a waiting ambulance and rushed to Royal Preston Hospital for urgent treatment.

He has suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

Lancashire Police are now seeking witnesses to help officers establish exactly how the crash occurred.

Sgt Marc Glass, of the Lancashire Police TacOps team, said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in St Annes which has left a man with serious head injuries.

"A man is in hospital with serious injuries following the collision and we are working hard to establish exactly what occurred.

"If you saw the collision, or saw the vehicles involved in the moments before it happened, please get in touch with us straight away."
