Man rushed to hospital after car 'flips onto roof' following crash on Talbot Road in Blackpool

Heavy traffic had been building on Talbot Road near Sainsbury's and Blackpool North railway station following a two-vehicle crash today (July 3).

A man had to be cut free from his blue Ford Fiesta after it landed on its roof following a collision with a Vauxhall Vectra, according to police.

North West Ambulance Service have confirmed a man in his 90s was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

The crash - which occurred shortly before 11am - resulted in the road being "partially blocked", causing buses in the area to divert their routes.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We were called just before 11am to reports of a two-vehicle collision in Talbot Road in Blackpool, involving a Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Vectra.

"Emergency services attended and found the Fiesta was on its roof.

"A closure was put in place but the road was fully open by 12.30pm."

A rapid response vehicle from the air ambulance unit, a land ambulance and an advanced paramedic attended the scene alongside police.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 10.59am today to reports of a serious RTC on Talbot Road in Blackpool.

"We sent an ambulance, an advanced paramedic and a rapid response vehicle from the air ambulance unit to the scene and treated a male patient in his 90s."

Two fire engines from Blackpool and South Shore were also called to help rescue the man from the overturned vehicle.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11.02am on Friday, July 2, two fire engines from Blackpool and South Shore attended a road traffic collision on Talbot Road, Blackpool.

"On arrival the crews found one vehicle on its roof with one casualty trapped. The casualty was rescued from the vehicle using Holmatro cutters and a hearth kit.

"The casualty was handed to North West Ambulance Service paramedics."

Fire crews were at the scene for around 40 minutes.
