Bus services are running on a reduced-frequency to allow key workers and those who need to access essential services to get where they need to be.

The tram service has stopped running with workers encouraged to use the number one bus along the seafront instead for essential travel..

The decision to offer free travel for NHS workers has been agreed by Blackpool Transport and the council, which owns the bus company.

Jane Cole, managing director at Blackpool Transport said: “We want to recognise the fantastic job that our NHS workers are doing during these testing times.

“We are committed to ensuring that all key workers can travel when it is vital to do so and we hope that by offering free travel to NHS workers, it may make life just that little bit easier”.

She added the company had been praised on social media for its efforts in maintaining transport for key workers, with bus drivers, who are key workers themselves, receiving particular praise.

Passengers should show their NHS pass when boarding in order to qualify for free travel.
