Car crashes into lamppost leaving Blackpool man, 83, in 'critical condition'

A pensioner is in critical condition in hospital after his car collided with a lamppost in Blackpool.

Police were called at about 12.15pm yesterday after a Citroen C3 left the carriageway in Talbot Road, at the junction with Buchanan Street, and collided with a traffic light.

The driver, an 83 year old man from Blackpool, was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he is currently in a critical condition.

A police spokesman said: "The road was closed for about two hours for accident investigation and repairs.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0559 of August 16."
