Blackpool Transport have taken the decision to reduce the frequency of trams to every 30 minutes, starting from March 22.

The change of frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes will mean trams can continue to run a reliable service for customers who rely on public transport.

A spokesman for Blackpol Transport said: “The government has encouraged people to limit the use of public transport to essential travel only, and those who still need to travel will be able to do so.

Trams will start running at the same time as they usually would, but instead remain on a 30 minute frequency throughout the day. Last trams will depart earlier than normal, with the last tram leaving Starr Gate at 9.15pm.

“Bus services are currently running as normal but are likely to begin operating an enhanced Sunday service from March 29. More information will be made available in the coming days.”

Ian Middlemiss, head of tramway at Blackpool Transport said “We have taken this difficult decision in order to continue to offer a reliable tram service. During these unprecedented times, our teams are doing a remarkable job in an operationally challenging environment. This measure allows us to care for our staff as best as possible, whilst still providing a good service for our customers”.
