Two rescued in flat blaze drama

Two people were rescued when a fire broke out at a flat early today.

The incident happened at a flat in Lytham Road, South Shore at just before 6am.

Firefighters from South Shore, St Annes and Blackpool were called to the property responding to reports that people may be trapped inside.

On arrival they rescued one man from a flat roof at the rear of the building.

Another person was taken out of the building by ladder.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered a ground floor flat at the building and extinguished the blaze.

Fans were then used to clear smoke from the building.

Crews were still at the scene at 9am today.

A 50-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Ivestigations at the scene are ongoing.
