Tour de France 2027 in Lancashire: the exact route the race will take at a glance

The world’s best cyclists are heading to the county next summer.

The exact route the Tour de France will take when it races through Lancashire next year has been unveiled.

The county is hosting an 80-mile stretch of the ‘Grand Départ’ event which is taking place across the UK.

The Blackpool Gazette has compiled a road-by-road breakdown of what will be the peloton's passage through Lancashire (see below) on day 2 of the globally-renowned sporting spectacle - Saturday 3rd July. It comes after the first definitive map was published following a launch event in Paris on Thursday.

The cyclists will arrive in the county from the Lake District en route to Liverpool. It had already been revealed that the riders would be passing through places including Carnforth, Morecambe, Lancaster, the Forest of Bowland, Clitheroe, Langho, Whalley, Blackburn, Chorley and Parbold.

Now, however, every twist and turn of the entire route can be traced - including the the five so-called ‘King of the Mountains’ climbs, over which Lancashire has a monopoly during the second day of the action.

Those ascents - at Jubilee Tower, the Trough of Bowland, Waddington Fell, Belmont and Parbold Hill - will, along with every other second of Lancashire's moment in the spotlight, be beamed around the world.

Vikki Harris, marketing and partnerships director at tourism body Marketing Lancashire, told The Gazette the Tour would give “a significant boost to the county’s visitor economy”.

“It will [also] provide an opportunity to share the county's diverse and spectacular coast and countryside with a worldwide audience.

“We're working with Lancashire's tourism and hospitality businesses to help maximise those opportunities, deliver an unforgettable visitor experience and encourage more holidays and short breaks in Lancashire in 2027 and beyond. "

Meanwhile, Lancashire County Council leader Stephen Atkinson, who attended the launch show, said: “It’s fantastic to see the route officially unveiled and to be here flying the flag for Lancashire ahead of our major role in next year’s Grand Départ.

“The Tour de France is one of the world’s biggest sporting events and is expected to bring more than £15m into Lancashire’s economy, as well as giving us a huge opportunity to showcase the county to the world.

“It’s also a great chance to make connections, learn from other host authorities and build the relationships we’ll need as detailed planning gets under way.”

Paul Bush, managing director of Grand Départ GB 2027, added: "To have both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift starting in Britain next summer is extraordinary - and a historic moment. These routes showcase what a spectacular stage Scotland, England and Wales will provide."
