M56 delays as crash near Manchester Airport closes road

There are delays on the M56 this morning (January 4) after a crash near Manchester Airport.

As a result of the collision, the Junction 5 westbound exit for the airport is closed, with normal traffic conditions not expected for several hours.

In a statement on X at 6.30am, a spokesperson for National Highways said: “The #M56 J5 westbound exit for Manchester Airport is currently closed due to a collision.

“There are 20 mins delays on the M56 westbound between J3 and J5 as traffic was held whilst the slip road was closed.

“Traffic has since been released and delays are expected to ease.”

According to the National Highways live traffic map, normal traffic conditions are expected between 9.30am and 9.45am.
